Volunteers for the historic Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad come together to celebrate each others hard work and dedication!
Over 130 years ago the first steam engine made its way down the Valley Railway for the very first time. The railway was built with the intention of carrying goods located south of Canton to Cleveland where industries were booming! It also carried passengers to destinations along its path. Over the coming years the railway changed hands many times and passenger service was discontinued in 1963 and transported its last freight nearly 20 years later.
Currently the historic railroad is owned by the National Park Service who is doing everything it can to preserve the history and legend of the railway. Although the CVSR does have a staff much of it’s success is due to its many volunteers who donate their own time to see that the railroads traditions can continue. The railroad continues to impress its visitors with its regular weekend scenic rides, special events held throughout the year, and amazing events for the kids including ride alongs on Thomas the Tank Engine and everyone’s winter time favorite the Polar Express!
The many volunteers working the railway combine to provide thousands of hours of free service to give the public an opportunity to see how the railroads operate and to show them the beautiful views of the Cuyahoga Valley National Parks. In recognition of their efforts the CVSR holds an annual volunteer dinner to highlight the groups accomplishments and thank them for their service. Buckeye State Entertainments own DJ Easy B and Angela were proud to be hired as the entertainment for this years event. The guests were treated to music and dancing and even a little karaoke as the evening progressed. This was sure to be a night the guests will not soon forget.
